A question to ask? |
Historical
background of the lighthouse of Verzenay |
| The
lighthouse of Verzenay was built in 1909 by Joseph Goulet,
son of the famous Modeste Goulet, the founder of the chain store GOULET
TURPIN. Joseph Goulet, avant- gardist man and Champagne merchant has built this lighthouse to promote hid champagne! It was enlightened at night. A restaurant and an open air dance floor were below the lighthouse but they didn’t exist anymore! |
2> The shells of the First World War put an end to this festive place and left behind their backs a damaged building! 4> The Town Council of Verzenay decided to undertake this renovation but in fact in 1994, it was the Community authorities of Vesle Montagne de Reims who realised the project. And … On the 3rd of October 1999 the Musée de la Vigne was opened to the public |
3> Then in 1987, the lighthouse, which belongs to a champagne house, was bought up by the commune of Verzenay. The goal was already to build a living museum. A dialogue has been established with the managers of la Montagne de Reims Regional Nature Reserve and a file was considered about the rehabilitation of the site. |
